F.A.Q. for a CON weekend
Q: Would I still be taking some photos while walking around the con, and how is this different from your photoshoot?
Yes, I will be taking Floor shots during the convention. These are often random, quick, and candid, depending on how chaotic the convention floor is. The photo will be posted on Facebook with my watermark and sent to Armageddon, and an unwatermarked version can be purchased for $28 per image.
With the photo shoot packages, there’s more time to work together to capture the images. The final images will be retouched, and you will receive more images at the package’s discounted rate. These are off-site from the Expo venue.
In both instances, when you purchased high res, a social media crop (4×5) or black and white can be requested. The hi-res is intended to be printable to A4. I do ask, where possible, not to crop or change the image and to credit @capturingcosplay. Click here for further details on Floorshots.
Q: What’s the difference between my Mini session and my Roaming Photographer shot at the major event?
My Mini-Session is where we work together in Solo/Duo at a location you choose off-site, and we collaborate together with poses and ideas over a 25-45 minute session. We will create about 8-12 finished poses, maybe more. Extra effort on my part to help with your pose, and you can even bring a helper(s) to fix your clothing. ( about 2 mins per setup )
As a Roaming Photographer, you will by chance get me as I roam around the event in the midst of the Party atmosphere of the Convention. I will try to walk around and attend the convention, but I will be carrying a subset of my camera equipment for a Floorshots of many people/groups as I can. The images in this post are some of my roaming photos and my watermark. And yes, I will not be photographing everyone. (to be extended with further links and images)
Q: I really like your Floorshot photos, but I can’t pay for the unwatermarked image.” What can I do to support you?
Thank you so much. Photography is a part of my income to support my family and me. As I said, the watermarked Floorshots are free for you to use on social media, with no cropping of the watermark.
– You can help by writing a review on the Capturing Cosplay Facebook page
– Tell your cosplay friends or people about my work
– Let me know about your professional skills and how we can work together
– Get me a coffee/drink or donate something through my Ko-Fi
Q: Do you have a makeup artist?
For the Floor Shot or Convention-based shoot, you will need to come already ready wearing your Cosplay. I do have a few makeup artists I have worked with and am happy to recommend on request.
Q: “I don’t know my poses” / Can you pose me?
I can always help with Poses and adjust your Posing to look good in the camera. Best come with 3 poses ready, and best to stay away from floor poses as well. Save that for a full photoshoot. Check out my Quick Tips. I can also run a Posing Workshop (about $300 for 90-120 mins, some images included) to help you get the best angles.
Q: Can I bring a friend/partner/family to the photoshoot?
Of course, you can. We’ll be focused on your Cosplay during the photoshoot. An extra person can help with looking after our (yours and mine) gear, fix detailing that I am not aware of and bring ideas to the shoot.
Q: Do I need to take off my mask?
I got asked this so many times during the convention. This answer has been expanded into a Quick Tip.
Re: the normal medical mask. As always, Safety First. This is your own choice. You may always wear the mask and choose to leave it on or take it off during the photos.
Re: Cosplaying with a Mask, see the Quick Tips
Q: Do you use flash?
I do use flash to help with creating images. Short answer: YES. Often, my style is more natural light and relaxed posing. I shy away from the flash but will have one if I need more fill light. (Kinda like adding salt to food when cooking). Also, I am a single person this time, so I’ll be working with a small gear set.
Q: What happens if it rains?
Unless it’s going to be pouring, I can still shoot. So it depends on your own comfort level. An example was in Wellington Armageddon (2k17), there was no sun, so there was no yummylight backlight style. Postponement due to weather. The shoot may be refunded or moved to a future agreed date.
Q: Can you shoot after or before the convention?
Sure thing, I can shoot almost anytime. It’s best to give me a DM.
Q: Can I book now and pay later? Or pay on the spot?
Yes, you can. But no finished images will be released until payment is completed. I will have my phone app for bank transfers, and can take cash on the day, and PayPal is also another option.
